Brand identity, messaging, and a website for an agricultural epigenetics startup.2025
“We had a compelling story about our technology, but Mark helped us make it more accessible. He gave us our best tagline: Plants have memories too. The bookmark-leaf symbol instantly communicates what we do. The brand imagery positions us differently. Instead of looking like an AgTech startup, we stand out as a company that respects agricultural tradition while advancing the science. I highly recommend Mark as a creative partner and am thrilled with the outcome of our work together.”
American farmers lose $50 billion a year to unpredictable weather: heat waves, drought, and frost. Temporal, backed by Notation Capital, Alt Capital, and Night Capital, uses epigenetics to activate defense systems already encoded in plant DNA. The challenge was communication, not science. Growers needed to understand how molecular bookmarks activate stress-resistance genes without a biology degree.
Under After worked with founders Chuck Frazier and Savannah Dearden on a brand built around one metaphor: plant DNA as an encyclopedia, epigenetic markers as bookmarks. That framing produced the tagline, Plants have memories too. The visual identity favored biological positioning over AgTech convention, pairing a leaf-bookmark symbol and botanical illustration with contemporary typography. The website led with the problem growers recognize, then explained the science through the bookmark metaphor.
The system positions Temporal to address a $50 billion annual crop-loss market by making molecular biology accessible, with technology that offers roughly 15 to 20% yield protection during heat waves.
