Brand strategy, visual identity design, generative imagery system, website, and brand trailer for an epigenomics infrastructure company.

Nurture builds the infrastructure for epigenomics: tools to read the epigenome, software to understand it, systems to remodel it. Its customers are biology companies and the scientists inside them who work with epigenomic data.

Under After worked with the founders to craft the brand strategy and messaging, then design the visual identity and a generative imagery system, before creating the website and a brand trailer.

Visual Identity

Nurture is the company brand. It carries the founders, the thesis and vision, and the context and story of an emerging field of science. Tellus is the platform. One visual system connects both, leveraging a shared color palette and Marund, a multi-axis neo-grotesque with a distinctive rounding system, from independent type foundry 26A1.

The result avoids both defaults in biotech: cold pharma seriousness on one side, sci-fi abstraction on the other.

Brand Imagery

The field of epigenomics is broadly applicable to all organisms, so the infrastructure layer for this emerging field needed to have a distinctive brand feel that could be organism-agnostic and expansive by design.

Under After built a custom generative app that splits an image into a grid and resolves random cells into the average color beneath, so measurement and image occupy the same surface. Inspired by the idea of a rule set with emergent variation, like nature itself, a few parameters in the dynamic system lead to unpredictable outputs. Any photograph of any organism goes in and comes out Nurture.

Hand-drawn spot illustrations introduce a human layer next to the procedural work, deliberately rough, like sketches in a scientist's notebook.

“I've worked with Mark across multiple companies and am always surprised and delighted by how he turns deeply technical concepts and half baked ideas into a unique brand that articulates the vision exceptionally well. A simple hand sketch becomes a memorable asset for fundraising. A quick conversation turns into a visual identity wholly different from anyone else's. He is a true creative partner who brings out the best possible version of your company for the world to see.”

Website

Under After designed and built the site in Astro with interaction points that allow users to trigger cell averaging with the mouse or reveal meaning in the hover state of the platform's benefits.

Launch

Under After also made a thirty-second branded trailer, posters, and brand apparel to support the initial launch of the website, and help solidify the brand's presence.
