Volumetric video capture used to require specialized studios with equipment costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Under After designed the brand identity for Depthkit's affordable 3D video toolkit that democratized volumetric capture for independent creators.
Volumetric video capture promised to transform VR and AR content creation, but the technology remained inaccessible to independent creators. Specialized volumetric studios required equipment costing hundreds of thousands of dollars and technical expertise beyond most artists and filmmakers.
Depthkit democratized this technology by combining commodity depth sensors (like Microsoft Kinect) with standard cameras, enabling artists to capture 3D video without specialized studio infrastructure.
As Depthkit prepared for commercial launch in 2017, the toolkit had already been used in experimental VR projects but needed a brand identity that positioned it as a professional production tool. Under After designed a visual system with a spatial mapping-inspired symbol and vibrant color palette that reflected the technology's innovative approach to volumetric capture.
The brand symbol uses overlapping forms and color shifts to visually represent the technology's core function of capturing depth data from multiple camera angles.
Projects Using Depthkit Technology
Depthkit technology powered award-winning projects including Google Virtual Arts Sessions, Eminem's Rap God music video, Zero Days VR (2018 Webby Award winner for Best Narrative Experience), and interactive web documentaries featured at Tribeca Film Festival. The toolkit enabled creators to produce volumetric video content for VR experiences, AR music performances, and interactive storytelling projects.
