NYC Cannabis Parade & Rally—a brand refresh for a four-decade old progressive event in NYC
Legal sales of marijuana are expected to grow to more than $20 billion by 2022, from approximately $10 billion in 2018. "Legalizing marijuana in New York could create a $3.1 billion market, says NYC comptroller. New York state would gain $435.7 million annually in tax revenue if marijuana becomes legal. New York City would gain $336 million."
The NYC Cannabis Parade "is a four-decade old original New York City tradition, part of the city’s classic heritage of cutting-edge progressive movements and protest advocacy. The Global Marijuana March (GMM) was born in New York City as the first annual pro-cannabis event and since expanded to hundreds of different cities in dozens of countries worldwide taking place in hundreds of cities around the world on the first Saturday of every May since 1999.” —Joyce Chen, Rolling Stone.
The organizers of the NYC Cannabis Parade & Rally approached me to update the event's visual identity to help the event reach a wider, mainstream audience.
